Alberta’s Indulstrial Heartland

Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Association (AIHA) is a non-profit cooperative group of four municipalities dedicated toward sustainable eco-industrial development. AIHA was created in 1998 by the municipalities within the geographic area of Alberta’s Industrial Heartland (AIH), including Strathcona County, Lamont County, Sturgeon County, and the City of Fort Saskatchewan. Together, these partners take a proactive and cooperative approach to planning and development in AIH.

As a not-for-profit association, AIHA is governed by a Board of Directors, comprised of one representative of each of the municipal partners. The Board of Directors provides general direction and strategic priorities for AIHA Executive Director (Neil Shelly) and staff members. Ensuring responsible, productive, and environmentally sound development, the Board and AIHA staff work closely with numerous stakeholders, including government, private industry, and area residents.

Heartland Objectives:

  1. Mitigate Impacts
  2. Issue Management
  3. Promote and Encourage Development
  4. Relationship Building
  5. Information and Communications
