FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 2024 Centennial Scholarship Recipient

September 27, 2024 – LAMONT, AB: Every year since 2025, Lamont County awards its $1,000 Centennial Scholarship to up to two residents. The 2024 recipient was announced at the September 10 Regular Council Meeting as Carson Vos!

Council is committed to assisting rural students in their pursuit of further education, and invites students (graduating grade 12 or attending post secondary) who reside in rural Lamont County to apply for the Centennial Scholarship. This year’s recipient, Carson Vos, had his cheque and certificate presented by Council at the September 24 Council Meeting.

Due to scheduling conflicts, the award was accepted by Mary Rietveld, his grandmother.
Ms. Rietveld was excited to accept the cheque on Carson’s behalf, commenting that medical school is expensive and this scholarship goes a long way to help with funding.

“ ‘The past is your lesson, the present is your gift, the future is your motivation’,” says Carson about his future plans and opportunity; he plans to complete medical school and return to open a clinic within Lamont County after graduation.

“The Centennial Scholarship is an important way to assist students from Lamont County to aid with their post secondary planning,” said Lamont County Reeve, David Diduck. “Mr. Vos has worked hard to be accepted to post secondary and has some exciting plans for the future. His hard work highlights some of the many achievements and opportunities in Lamont County.
Congratulations Carson, I wish you and good luck in your future studies!”

Submissions for the Centennial Scholarship are accepted year-round with an annual deadline of August 31. Note: the timeline may be updated in 2025 to encourage more applicants and align with the school year.
