2025 Municipal Election Information
This page only provides basic and incomplete information for interested individuals and prospective candidates. Candidates are responsible for complying with all relevant legislation and for ensuring their campaign meets the requirements of all legislation.
The next Municipal Election will be held on October 20, 2025.
Information on this page will be updated closer to Nomination and Election Day 2025.
Elections will be held for five (5) Councillor positions, one from each of the five (5) electoral divisions in Lamont County. The Chief Elected Official (Reeve) will be elected from amongst its members at the County's Annual Organizational Meeting.
Elections will be conducted in accordance with applicable municipal bylaws and policies and the Local Authorities Election Act.
Notice Of Intent
All candidates must submit a Notice Of Intent.
To submit a Notice Of Intent does not mean a person is nominated.
A candidate must complete the nomination process by submitting the Nomination Paper (Form 4) and the Candidate's Acceptance Form (Form 5) during the nomination period from January 2 to September 22, 2025.
Candidates who plan to run in the 2025 Lamont County Municipal Election can only accept campaign contributions and incur campaign expenses once their Notice of Intent is complete and they are added to the Register of Candidates (below on this page).
Qualifications of Candidates
A candidate must be
- At least 18 years of age on nomination day (September 22, 2025),
- A Canadian Citizen,
- A Resident of Lamont County and the division for the six (6) consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day,
- is not otherwise ineligible or disqualified.
Ineligibility of Candidates
This is not a complete list - For more information on Ineligibility of candidates please consult section 22 of the Local Authorities Election Act.
Section 22 of the Act (Excerpt):
A person is not eligible to be nominated as a candidate in any election under this Act if on nomination day
(a) the person is the auditor of the local jurisdiction for which the election is to be held;
(b) subject to subsection (4), the person is an employee of the local jurisdiction for which the election is to be held unless the person takes a leave of absence under this section
(c) the person is indebted to the municipality of which the person is an elector for taxes in default exceeding $50, excluding from that amount
(i) any indebtedness for current taxes, and
(ii) any indebtedness for arrears of taxes for which the person has entered into a consolidation agreement with the municipality, unless the person is in default in the payment of any money due under the agreement;
(d) the person is indebted to the local jurisdiction for which the election is to be held for any debt equalling or exceeding $500 and in default for more than 90 days;
(d.1) the person has, within the previous 10 years, been convicted of an offence under this Act, the Election Act, the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act or the Canada Elections Act (Canada).
Contributions and Expenses Notice Requirements
Section 147.22 of Local Authorities Election Act
(1) No individual and no person acting for the individual shall accept a contribution or incur a campaign expense unless the individual has given written notice in accordance with this section.
(2) An individual who intends to be nominated or has been nominated to run for election in a local jurisdiction as a candidate must give written notice to the local jurisdiction in which the individual intends to be or has been nominated.
(3) A written notice under subsection (2) must include, in respect of the individual’s candidacy,
(a) the full name, address and contact information of the individual,
(b) the address of the place or places where records of the individual are maintained and of the place to which communications may be addressed,
(c) the names and addresses of the financial institutions to be used by or on behalf of the individual as depositories for campaign contributions made to that individual, and
(d) the names of the signing authorities for each depository referred to in clause (c).
(4) No candidate and no person acting for a candidate shall accept a contribution in respect of an election outside the campaign period for that election.
The Register of Candidates (below) is a record of all candidates who have given Notice Of Intent that they seek nomination for the 2025 Lamont County Municipal Election.
Important Dates
Nomination Period - January 1 (all day) to September 22, 2025 (noon)
- County offices will begin to accept nomination papers on January 2, 2025.
- Candidates can file nomination papers anytime during the nomination period with the Returning Officer during office hours.
Nomination Day - September 22, 2025
- Nomination papers must be filed by 12:00 p.m. with the County's Returning Officer.
