Council Appointments Internal Boards, Commissions and Committees (2024-25)

Committee members hold a keen interest in sustainable agriculture within Lamont County. This includes concerns for the interest of property owners, producers and other parties affected by weeds and pests listed on the Weed Control Act and the Agricultural Pests Act.

Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge in one of the following areas:
  • Community representation or knowledge of community standards.
  • Plants designated under the Weed Control Act and declared pests under the Agricultural Pests Act.
  • An understanding of quasi-judicial function and role of members of a tribunal, and/or principles of administrative law and natural justice.
  • Ability to organize, read, understand and apply the Weed Control ActAgricultural Pest Act and the Municipal Government Act.

The Agricultural Service Board (ASB) strives to act with respect to, and assist in, proper land utilization and its production with a view to improving the economic well-being of the farmer, and to develop and promote agricultural policies to meet the needs of the agricultural community of Lamont County.

Agricultural Service Board Bylaw

FCSS is a partnership between Lamont County and the Government of Alberta; it provides locally driven, preventative social programs and initiatives to enhance the well-being of individuals, families and the community. This is a volunteer position. Members of the FCSS board meet bi-monthly. Board members must be residents of Lamont County.

The Intermunicipal Subdivision and Development Appeal Board shall hear all subdivision and development appeals, as set out in Part 17, Division 10 of the Municipal Government Act, in accordance with the MGA and ISDAB Bylaw (801).

Lamont County Community Adult Learning Council (CALC) is funded by Alberta Advanced Education. In order for Albertans to be able to participate actively in society, pursue further learning, and be successful in their work, the Province’s mandate for CALC is to enhance, directly or through referrals and partnerships, the following:
  • Basic adult literacy (reading, writing, numeracy)
  • proficiency in the English language
  • Basic digital skills
  • Foundational life skills
As a committee of Lamont County, Lamont County CALC is a 10-member volunteer board. It consists of interested elected officials from Lamont County municipalities and community members-at-large who have a declared interest in furthering the adult learning goals stated above.

Since 2005, Lamont County has awarded two $1000 scholarships to Lamont County residents in order to assist rural students in pursuing further education.

The MPC is the review body for subdivision applications and development permit applications considered to be discretionary. The MPC reviews and considers applications and makes recommendations to the appropriate authority.

The Alberta Municipal Government Act requires all municipalities to appoint members to serve on a Municipal Planning Commission (MPC). Three members of Council are required for three-year terms.

The Regional Emergency Advisory Committee is a Council committee, which guides and directs the County's emergency management in the development of a Municipal Emergency Plan (MEP), and any related programs.

The committee shall play a role in disaster and emergency situations, which may include the authorization, declaration, renewal, or termination of a state of local emergency.

The Committee meets at minimum once each year, or as required.
